What does it mean for a person to rant and rave?

It is when a person has let his emotions get on top of him and then speaks his mind in a complete tirade of invective.

Common terminology - he ';loses his rag';.What does it mean for a person to rant and rave?
To rave literally means to talk like a crazy person. It means to be very angry and to complain loudly about something.

To rant means to talk at length about a subject, again to complain bitterly. A rant can also be called a tirade or a diatribe.

(Rave has another different meaning. It can mean to speak highly of someone or something, to be overjoyed or ecstatic.)

A rant is also a form of comedy, usually on television or video, where a person paces back and forth, switching direction now and then, with odd camera angles, while ';ranting'; about a given subject.

In Canada, the most famous rant is the Molson's beer commercial (My name is Joe, and I am Canadian). The most famous ranter is comedian Rick Mercer.

Basically when a person needs to vent, they go on and on about something they feel is wrong, or has been done to them that is wrong. Hope that helps.
